Local Elections 2006 Lobbying and Candidate Pledges

Local Elections 4th May 2006

For the 2006 local elections, Southwark Cyclists contacted the leaders of the three main parties to ascertain their position on a number of key actions that the group agreed needed to be put in place to improve the environment for cyclists in Southwark.

The manifesto pledges and responses are here.

The pledges were also distributed to candidates standing in a number of wards to ask for their personal views. The responses are here (pdf)

We also ran our own poll to get feedback on the effectiveness of our lobbying. Although 9 out of 10 replies found the mailshot to candidates interesting, only one reply said that it influenced their vote.

We plan to follow up the candidates on their pledges and work to ensure they're fulfilled.

Lobby your candidates for better cycling in Southwark!
