Meeting the Mayoral Candidates at the Coin Street Festival

On April 30th 2000, at Coin Street, one of the largest Hustings for the would be Mayors took place. All the main mayoral candidates turned up during the day, nearly 100 stalls and Southwark Cyclists representing the London Cycling Campaign (LCC).

The question for the Mayoral Candidates was: "With the help of Alexei Sayle, LCC's members raised over 1,000 pounds to offer the Mayor a bike and free cycle training. If you were Mayor, would you accept this offer?"

Ken Livingstone, Coin St. Festival Ken Livingstone can't cycle, but he proposed that the bike be given to a deserving child. ("The mayoral candidate will make enough money, so they don't need the generosity", he added.)

Peter Tatchell (Independent candidate) was pro-cycling and cycled regularly, but said he could do with a new bike as his was falling to bits!
