From: "Andrew Rodgers" Date: Fri Feb 18, 2005 2:47 pm Minutes of the February Meeting 09-02-05 19.00 Blackfriars Settlement, Rushworth Street. Attendees: Barry Mason, Rebecca Lack, Roger Stocker, Roger Geffen, Gareth Scarlett, Eleanor Purser, Paul Stone, Kit Reynolds, Andrew Rodgers. 1. Minutes of the previous meeting agreed. 2. Cycle Saturation Update. Southwark Cyclists have written to the school to formally award them the project. Formal appointment has been made of SEA as project managers and CTUK as a supplier. A meeting has been scheduled for the end of February to discuss the project with the school and involved parties. The project outline will be approved at this meeting as will the proposed budget plan. 3. Burgess Park, Mint Street Park and Southwark Park. An application has been made, in conjunction with SEA for £10,000 of funding for events, further development and running of the Burgess Park Bike Track. We have been invited to submit an application, in conjunction with CTUK, for up to £5,000 of funding for a summer of Cycling Project at Mint Street Park. Barry and Roger Stocker attended a meeting with The Friends of Southwark Park and other stakeholders about the future of Southwark Park. Southwrk Council and the Friends of Southwark Park are looking to bring the park back to the standard where it is eligible to receive a Green Flag for Parks, recognising it's excellence as a local resource. It was proposed by Barry and Roger that part of the plans should be to make Southwark Park cycle friendly throughout and making it accessible as a portion of a commuter route for cyclists. This proposal was well received and has been agreed, subject to parkscape limitations from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Another meeting is set to take place in March which will include local recreation group Fusion where they will be asked to become more involved. The issue of Jamaica Road and the Rotherhithe Roundabout were raised as they border Southwark Park and serve as impediments to access to the park. It was agreed that there needs to be a review of the roundabout and access to the park and this should include a safety audit of the roundabout. Alastair and Barry will contact Gary Glover, a locally respected figure and campaigner, to seek his help in gathering support in pressing for change at the junction. Barry will also send a message to the e-group seeking local support. (This has now been done) 4. Planning Round Up Eleanor gave a round up of the activities of the planning group since the last meeting. Whilst our policy is not finalised, we have used some of our standard lines in response to planning items within Southwark. Eleanor has received proposals for Safe Routes to Schools and will be making responses on them. Members of the planning group did a pre-CRIM ride on Saturday and Alastair will be writing up our reccomendations for submission to Southwark Council. Eleanor has received a pre-release copy of the Southwark Cycling Strategy. The proper release will happen at the February Transport Forum. On looking at the document, it is clear that it requires review and that it lacks any focus or vision. SC should respond on how the Strategy could be improved. Roger Stocker also mentioned that three consultations that SC provided input on were presented and our comments were taken on board as these projects go forward. 5. The Website. Kit proposed that we use Google Ads as a cost free source of revenue through the website. After dicussion it was agreed that Kit would obtainmore information of what this would entail and make a report at the next meeting. Eleanor proposed that we use the website to keep an accessible record of live parts of our planning activity. This was agreed and Kit and Eleanor will discuss how this should be done. Andrew proposed that in light of SC's growing interest in members attending community councils we should list the dates of the community councils on the site. It was agreed that this would be trialed as part of the rides calendar and also a single monthly reminder to the e-group. 6. Walworth Road Following on from the community Council meeting addressing the Walworth Road, Barry has made a formal complaint to Andrew Downs, who is managing this project. We found the presentation at the community council and handling of the community consultation to be lacking and the hard work and input of SC on the project to be sidelined. As a response Andrew Downs has agreed to ahve a meeting with SC about the project and we will endeavour to get our concerns and proposals properly taken on board. 7. Bike Week Barry presented the current schedule of events for Bike Week. At the moment it is ride oriented and we need to look at what we can do both in terms of advertising/raising awareness and also having more events both during and in the lead up to Bike Week. Eleanor will look at getting a personal contact to undertake some design work and look at some of the cost options for advertising. We welcome any suggestions for non-ride oriented events. 8. Rides - Barry's Norman Foster Ride on the 26th Jan. 9. SouthwarK Council's Cycling Officer, Roger Stoker, spoke briefly about the Councils spending plans. Southwark Council is keen to get the most training out of it's cycling budget that it can, focusing mainly on working with schools. There is also an interest inproviding a comprehensive range of cycling facilities. All suggestions for parking should be fed through the planning group to collate. Lockers are getting a lot of interest from tenant groups as a better form of cycle parking.
