Minutes of the September Meeting. 19.00 Wednesday 14-09-05 Blackfriars Settlement 1-5 Rushworth Street London SE1 0RB Attendees: Barry Mason (Co-ordinator), Rebecca Lack, Robbie Kelly, Ten, Hugh Bolton, Alastair Hanton, Gary Jones, Colin Hartridge-Price, Eleanor Purser, Andrew Rodgers. Apologies: Adam, Sue Richards, Kit Reynolds. 1. Introductions and note of August Meeting. Note of the August meeting approved 2. Southwark Cyclists Annual Meeting. Our Annual Meeting will be held this year at City Hall as guests of Val Shawcross. It will be held at 7pm with Rose Ades of Transport for London's Cycling Centre of Excellence as our keynote speaker. Oliver Shick will be representing LCC. Our new constitution was presented following discussion on the e-mail group and subject to a few minor amendments it has been approved for Barry Mason to take to the annual meeting for approval by the whole group. Elections will be taking place. These will be compared by Alistair Hanton. At present the only position that will be vacant at the annual meeting is that of Secretary. The annual meeting will be advertised via the e-mail group, the SE1 website, leafleting on London Bridge and a piece on Resonance Radio. 3. LCC AGM The LCC AGM is to take place on 02-10-05 at Kings College on Stamford Street. LCC will be giving cycling awards and Southwark Cyclists have made the following nominations: Best Cycle Facility; Greendale Cycling Link in East Dulwich Best Community Initiative; Dunwich Dynamo XIII Best Kids Initiative; Cycle Saturation at the St John's Primary School in Southwark Best Cycling Media initiative; Resonance Radio 4. London Borough of Southwark Roger Stocker, Southwark's Cycling Officer bought us up to date on the following development in the Borough. For Good Going Week Friday is Cycling Day and a Bike Breakfast will be held outside On Your Bike on Tooley Street from 8am to 10am. A cycle parking audit is to be undertaken throughout the Borough to see where best to spend the allocation available for starting and improving parking facilities. Areas that will be receiving special attention by popular demand will be Butlers Wharf and Borough Market. Southwark Council are getting involved with the Metropolitan Police and TfL with their campaign to promote cycle registration as an effective method against bicycle theft. Southwark Council's policies on cycling, specifically the draft Cycling Plan are still in process. Things are still happening on them although this is a lengthy process. CRISPS are ongoing and TfL are going to be conducting them on all of their major routes starting with their review of the link from Surrey Quays to London Bridge including Jamaica Road and Tooley Street. 5. Planning & Campaigns Group Eleanor Purser presented on the current activity with the Planning and Campaigns Group. The group took a hiatus during the summer months but is looking to return to look at three key aims. These will include the Cycling Strategy, the draft Cycling Plan and a one at a time campaigns programme. Eleanor is particularly keen to develop an Advanced Stop Line campaign to raise awareness of the legal obligation of drivers to observe them. reminders will follow on the e-mail list. 6. Newsletter. The Newsletter was circulated to all present. plans were laid for the copying and distribution of these including placing in the London Cyclist magazine and for local distribution. 7. Finances Hugh Bolton reported on finances. There has been little change in the past month. 8. Rides The upcoming rides were discussed, please see the rides section of the website for up to the minute information. 9. Any Other Business. Greenwich Cyclists are interested in getting another ride leader. Anyone interested in this should get in contact with the group through their website. Southwark Cyclists will be running a stall and Dr. Bike at the British School of Osteopathy on Friday 23rd September between 2-5pm. Volunteers welcome. The Bianali will be doing an exposure on architecture in the Bankside area to co-incide with next year's Bike Week. We should look at some way to tie the two together. Minuted by Andrew Rodgers
