|___/ CYCLIST. GSTQ! EDITION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MASSIVELY SELF REFERENTIAL EDITORIAL: I just attended the monthly Southwark
Cyclist meeting ( second Wednesday of every month, 19:00, Blackfriars
Settlement, 1-5 Rushworth St, SE1 ) where I was informed that the deadline for
putting *OUR* newsletter in the next edition of The London Cyclist was less
than 36 hours away and we didn't have a one yet. The sane person in me though
"Ho-Hum, Publishing is a serious business that we should leave to the experts",
while I said something along the lines of "I'll do it." So I just wrote an
e-mail, to *OUR* mailing list (*1) that said something like . . .

"My plan, starting now, is to cut and paste stuff from the internet
(and even this e-mail!!!). * this newsletter will be aimed at people who do
not check the LCC or southwark website or newsgroups (*1)."

So my message to you is: Its good that you have joined the LCC, its
60p-tastic that you specified that you are a Southwark resident . . BUT . .
it would be *amazing* if you contributed to the newsgroup and/or our
monthly meetings. Try it, you might just like. The more the merrier!

NOT EXACTLY MINUTES: My view on what we did this evening: We examined the
entrails of bike week, drawing the conclusion that *WE* did an excellent
job of running at least one event a day for 9 days. YAY! Next there was some
*HOT* gossip on a possible venue for next years bike breakfast and then we
discussed our finances with particular reference to matters arising from *OUR*
Burgess Park Bike Track project (the only piece of infrastructure built for
bike week that will be around next year?). Then this happened and the rest
is a blur of planning issues; *OUR* dodgy roads *OUR* problem! + CRISPs

EVENTS: By the time you read this the *Legendary* "Dunwich Dynamo" overnight
200km bike ride, which *OUR* very own co-ordinator (*2) organises the transport
back from, will have been and gone and maybe skinny dipped ;O where were you?
Just a peek at whats coming up in August: * Tuesday 3rd; Afterworker; meet at
Southwark Needle, south end of London bridge, 18:00. * Sunday 8th; Kent Weald;
35miles; Meet@09:10 London Bridge Station for 09:30 Train. * Saturday 14th :
Mint Street Park Celebrations with Southwark Playhouse.

not to be confused with *OUR* website: http://www.southwarkcyclists.org.uk/

REQUEST FOR HELP: If you have some spare time, skills and/or money we can use
them. * We blatantly need help with the publishing and printing of this
newsletter, to start all you need is good will and some spare time, I have
just resigned. * We need people to distribute this content; please carry at
least 1 copy of our newsletter with you whenever possible. make it your
mission to give this copy to a good home: put it on noticeboards, hand to
random cyclists, put in shop windows, attach it to parked bikes or bicycle
parking and street furniture. * Anyone who is interested in making their local
area safer and greener can get actively involved in helping to make decisions
through a new scheme to bring local government closer to the community. Eight
community councils have been created, which take decision making out of the
Town Hall and into the community. We want cycling to be properly represented
at these meeting, so from just turning up, through parking your bike outside
to evangalising bikes and battling endemic car culture, we need you! * Come
on our rides, if we wanted to ride alone we wouldn't advertise them!

NeighBoroURGHing News: If you feel that our cavalier attitude extends too far
beyound just making up new words, and feel unable to associate with us, you
could do worse than contacting City Cyclists ( http://www.citycyclists.org.uk/
or c/o the LCC ): Despite a low LCC member resident count, a not particularly
democratic controlling body and some world class paranoia mixed with dodgy
road layouts City Cyclist continue to try and make things better for cyclists.
Have, you cycled north over Southwark Bridge and encountered the carelessly
placed concrete blocks on Queens St? This madness must stop! * As I go
to press Lambeth Cyclists ( http://www.lcc.org.uk/index.asp?PageID=68
020 8677 8624 ) still have two very active members working in the
LCC office, and are filling the summer days with fun bike rides. * Going
further afield in search of tabloid like headlines we come to Greenwich
cyclists ( http://www.greenwichcyclists.org.uk/ 07929 722 973 ) in a
SKINT CYCLISTS SHOCKER!! despite a number of great projects, ongoing
campaigns, classic and new rides, famous fundraising events and a not
inconsiderable bank account turnover they have found themselves without the
cash to pay for the venue for their next meeting!

At this point I could use google to search the miracle that is
www.dailyrotten.com for mad stories with bicycles in them, but I'll leave that
as an exercise for the reader. YMMV. Your Mileage May Vary.

I need to sleep now, here are some more ASCII bicycles:
