Rides Archive 2004Here's a list of the many rides we ran in 2004, useful if you're looking for inspiration for a ride: March 2004Friday 5 March: Kentish Weald (some hills on this one). Meet London Bridge (outside WH Smith) 10.00am for 10.23 train to Sevenoaks. Ride to Sevenoaks Weald, Chiddingstone, Penshurst, past Hildenborough, Shipbourne, Plaxtol, past Knole Park and back to Sevenoaks for 16.20 train (arr. London Bridge 16.53). Approx. 33 miles almost completely on minor roads. Greenwich Cyclists. Liz 020 8691 2065. Saturday 6 March: Easy going Ride Surrey Docks Farm. A gentle ride along the river to Surrey Docks Farm. Meet the animals and stop for a coffee before the ride back. This ride is designed for beginners and families, but all welcome. Meet Cutty Sark Gardens at 10:00am. Greenwich Cyclists. Kate 020 8858 1594. Sunday 7 March: Coulsdon South to Brighton. About 45 miles, gently climbing, then slowly descending with a final whizz into Brighton. No Ditchling Beacon, but a couple of smaller climbs. Pace will be fastish. Meet at Peckham Pulse (Map) 9am prompt, or London Bridge Station main concourse at 9.20 for the 9.38 train to Coulsdon South. Southwark Cyclists. Peter 07968 836057. Wednesday 10 March: Southwark Cyclists Monthly Meeting. Details Sunday 14 March: Kent Country Lanes. Train out to Kent then easy 30 miles. Meet on top of the Green Bridge, Mile End Park at 9.30am. Tower Hamlets Wheelers. Steve steve@towerhamletswheelers.org.uk Friday 19 March: Lea Valley Towpath. Foot tunnel to Isle of Dogs and roads to Limehouse cut. Towpath, as far as possible along Lea valley through Hackney towards Enfield. We'll go as far as we can, depending on speed of group and path conditions. If the weather has been wet we will probably be slower; expect some muddy bits, but road tyres should be OK. I have applied for a group permit (against all the normal procedures and only being issued for a maximum of 6 cyclists). You can apply for your own permit, which last indefinitely from www.britishwaterways.co.uk. Search under cycling and there is an application form on line. It would be better if people had their own permits in case we have more than 6 in the group. About 30 miles. Meet Cutty Sark Gardens at 10.00am. Greenwich Cyclists. Liz 020 8691 2065 Saturday 27 March: Peckham to Tunbridge Wells. This will be a bit of an explore. No fixed route as yet, but 40-50 miles, starting with Shooters Hill. Fastish pace. Meet 10am Peckham Pulse (Map) 10am, or 10.15 at Deptford Bridge, underneath the DLR bridge. Trains home every half hour to London Bridge. Southwark Cyclists/LCC ride. Peter 07968 836057 Sunday 28 March: Wandle Trail Ride. Spring is coming so why not jump on a bike and join us to ride the Wandle trail. This is a joint Lambeth Cyclists/Women's Design Service ride with an easy pace, starting in Clapham, taking in the sights and smells of the Wandle trail, stopping for lunch somewhere nice along the way and ending up at East Croydon Station. You can then take a train onwards or cycle back to Clapham with us. This is a women led ride, but everyone is welcome to come along. Meet at the Clapham Common Bandstand, Clapham, 10am sharp. Lambeth Cyclists. Ché Sutherland 0781 444 549, che@lcc.org.uk, Alix Stredwick at WDS 020 7490 5210 or 07903 606330 astredwick@wds.org.uk Tuesday 30 March: An evening for Southwark Cyclists at Evans London Bridge. Come to Evans' newest store, which is having a special evening for Southwark Cyclists from 6-8pm. 20% off all non-sale stock (on production of valid LCC card) including new bikes, workshop tours, modest wine and nibbles. Just turn up. April 2004Friday 2 April: Hertfordshire lanes around Stevenage. About 35 miles. Meet 9.15 am at Cutty Sark Gardens for ride to Kings Cross or under departures board at Kings Cross for 10.36am train to Knebworth. Return about 16.30pm. This is an unfamiliar ride for me but it looks flattish and apparently follows small lanes in spite of its close proximity to Stevenage and Hitchin. Greenwich Cyclists. Liz 020 8691 2065 Saturday 3 April: Easy going Ride Musuem of London. A ride North of the river and into the City to the Museum of London. Find out more about our City, and/or enjoy a coffee/lunch break. Train or cycle back. This ride is designed for beginners and families, but all welcome. Meet Cutty Sark Gardens at 10:00am. Or 9.15am Deptford Bridge, underneath the DLR bridge. This ride has both hills and long flat stretches. A large part is on very quiet single track roads and follows the Pilgrims way for quite a bit. Medium paced, as it is quite a long way. Make sure you have a good breakfast before setting out, and a good meal the night before. Southwark Cyclists/LCC Ride.
